Our Sea-teK® solutions with ECOSE Technology® are enjoying a wave of success as the passenger ship business continues to go from strength to strength.

The cruise industry is anticipated to grow by 6% to an estimated 30 million passengers by the end of 2019 and has enjoyed significant year-on-year growth since 2009 when 17.8 million people booked a cruise.

“The passenger ship industry has enjoyed an incredible boom in recent years and we are delighted that ship specifiers want to make Sea-teK® with ECOSE Technology® an important part of their planning,” says Pavol Harmanos, our Sales & Market Manager Marine.

Sea-teK® with ECOSE Technology® is becoming a popular choice

“Passenger vessels accommodate large numbers of people in close proximity to one another and issues such as fire safety, acoustic performance and interior comfort are paramount for ship owners — that is why Sea-teK® with ECOSE Technology® is becoming an increasingly popular choice.”

Not only do Sea-teK® Mineral Wool solutions meet the highest fire safety standards, but they also deliver exceptional acoustic and thermal performance. In addition, our ECOSE Technology® binder with no added formaldehyde ensures a healthy interior and enjoys Eurofins Indoor Air Comfort Gold certification.

2019 is also set to be a record year ever for the launch of new cruise liners with 24 new ships expected to be delivered this year including one of the biggest vessels of all, the 6,600-passenger Costa Smeralda.

40 million cruise passengers expected by 2027

In 2018 there were 34,000 new berths, a record that will be shattered by the 42,488 scheduled to be added to the industry by the end of this year, says Cruise Industry News.

“This growth is extraordinary,” says Pavol. “More than 100 cruise ships with capacity for more than 230,000 passengers are already on the orderbook until 2027 and there are estimates that there will be 40 million passengers cruising every year by the end of the next decade. Sustainability and comfort as well as efficiency are important aspects of this new generation of ships and our ECOSE Technology® solutions are a perfect fit.”

The cruise industry started in the 1960s and has grown in popularity every year since. Today the market is incredibly diverse with an astonishing variety available including cruise ships that feature water parks, a roller coaster and go-kart tracks; vessels inspired by Venice with their own St Mark’s Square, La Fenice Opera House and even gondolas or an expedition ships that can journey to remote Arctic or Antarctic regions.
